28. How long is a broker or salesperson license good for in the state of California?

Both the salesperson's and broker's license are good for 4 years. There is a two-year grace period once the licence expires during which time the licensee can renew his or her license for an additional fee. Once this two year grace period expires, this one time licensee will be required to retake the California state examination. You will not be required to retake your three pre-license courses for the salesperson’s license or eight pre-license courses for the broker’s license. During this two-year grace period it would be unlawful to conduct real estate activities. You may not conduct yourself as a salesperson or broker during the two-year grace period. It would be unlawful during the two-year grace period for your broker to issue you a commission checks.
